Replace the battery if it still sounds then replace the smoke detector.
Be Well, it seems that your smoke detector is connected to the house (the battery has been in power failure) and "silent" mode. This is usually caused by the alarm of the students have and bring on the button to silence. Once this happens, it will sound only occasionally, so you do not know that (fire or no fire) can be activated at the moment. The good news is that usually only 10 minutes and must then return to normal, provided it returns nothing!
If not back to normal after a while, check to see if there is a reset button of some kind, and if not, unplug the power cord to reset it (connected a couple have a son who has small plug can be easily disconnected and reconnected)
